The quest for the common good and sincere attention to others and the world are at the heart of the raison d'être of MAIF, which became a mission-driven company in 2020. Convinced that sport is a formidable vehicle for raising awareness, the mutual insurance company is today deploying the MAIF Sport Planète scheme, a set of actions and resources available to the sporting ecosystem throughout the year, helping to motivate as many people as possible to make a collective commitment to preserving the planet.
The Salomon EcoTrail Paris is a major event that has demonstrated its commitment to environmental responsibility since 2012. The vast majority of the issues addressed today by the Sport Planète MAIF program have been at the core of this event for several years. The running community, and trail runners in particular, are a group that is particularly sensitive to these issues.
Today, we can't turn a blind eye to the issues raised by major sporting gatherings (or cultural events, for that matter): transport, refuelling or meals, food in short, with its excesses, waste... are all areas that need to be studied and challenged, to ensure that the impact of sporting activities is as neutral as possible.
The Salomon EcoTrail Paris is a pioneer in the field of eco-friendly events. Working with local producers through direct-to-consumer channels, offering tailored transportation options, eliminating the infamous finisher’s T-shirt—which clutters store shelves—and designing routes that showcase nature’s beauty are just a few of the initiatives that contribute to a better future for all.
It's a showcase event in terms of eco-responsibility. We want to share it with our community of members, organize training outings from some of our local branches, and enable some of them to take part in the event, either by running or volunteering... We're looking into other avenues of activation, such as plogging, setting up ecoboxes to collect sports equipment for exchange or recycling, and installing an alternative and sporting solution to electricity production with our partner Cyclo Power Factory (on-site production of electricity using bicycles).
