Salomon's tips for preparing your trail bag
A must-have piece of equipment for trail runners, the hydration bag accompanies you on all your outings all year round. In summer, it's even essential to avoid dehydration and be as self-sufficient as possible. Here's Salomon's advice on packing only the essentials. And don't forget to reread the list of mandatory equipment for each race.
Choosing it: whether you're a beginner or an experienced runner, and depending on the distance you'll be covering, you'll find the right trail bag for you. Choose it for its lightness, its minimalism, its capacity and always according to your morphology for greater comfort.
- 1h to 2h trail: hydration belts or 2L to 5L vest
- More than 3 hours trail running: 6 to 10L vest

Test it: During your training sessions, don't hesitate to run with your bag filled with the equipment you plan to take with you on the race. You'll be able to test it in real-life conditions and see how much water and food (gels, energy bars, etc.) you need. It's an opportunity to learn how to eat and drink while running without stopping, and also to recognize your hunger and thirst signals during exercise.
Seb's advice: For me, a well-prepared bag means having everything you need close at hand, without it bothering me when I'm running. I try to put the obligatory race gear that I'm unlikely to use in the back (survival blanket, whistle, windbreaker...) and my flasks and energy bars in the front.
D-Day: check the weather forecast to adjust your equipment. A light, waterproof jacket if summer showers are forecast, and of course a cap and sun protection.
Last but not least, we recommend that you take along a well-protected, charged cell phone and a survival blanket.
