Which shoes to choose on race day?
It's hard to find your way around when you're just starting out on the trail. Whether you're looking for grip, comfort, recovery or versatility, there are many different ranges of trail running shoes with very specific characteristics. And when you also have to take into account weather conditions, surface type, distance covered, etc., choosing the most suitable pair for your race can be a real headache.
To help you make this difficult choice, Salomon has designed this special EcoTrail Paris shoe guide, which we hope will be very useful on D-day.
You're running the 80 km EcoTrail Paris
For the EcoTrail Paris long-distance race, we advise you to choose shoes specially designed for... long-distance running (obvious, isn't it?). As you can imagine, you'll be running for long hours (at least 6 hours for the fastest of you), which will inevitably have a significant impact on your body (mental fatigue, more sensitive feet, knees or legs). So it's very important to feel good in your shoes from the1st to the 80th kilometer. The models best suited to long distances will therefore be those that have made comfort and versatility their main assets. With maximum cushioning and stud depths ranging from 3.5 to 4.5 mm, these shoes will enable you to run many kilometers on all types of surfaces. And we do mean different surfaces, because on the 80 km EcoTrail Paris, you're bound to switch from forest to city parks and from city parks to the famous Parisian asphalt. While deeper crampons will give you ideal grip on muddy surfaces, they will be less practical and wear out more quickly on asphalt.
Key points to remember: Choose shoes with maximum cushioning and studs 3.5 to 4.5 mm deep for greater versatility on mixed terrain.

Below 50 km, there are several schools.
For the most seasoned runners, who will be aiming for the lead or even victory, we strongly recommend shoes specially designed for speed. Lighter, slimmer and more dynamic models to swallow up kilometers faster than the average runner. Among Salomon's famous performance range, the S/LAB Pulsar 3 is the ideal model, there's no debate.
Whether you're just starting out, looking to get your bearings or simply looking for an unforgettable experience, it all depends on what you're looking for first. Comfort? Versatility? Ankle support? Grip? Every runner is unique. That's why Salomon offers a wide range of shoes to meet everyone's needs and desires.
If you're looking for absolute comfort and maximum cushioning to feel good throughout your run, the Ultra Glide 3 is (still) the shoe for you.
It's just rained and you want to be sure you're not slipping or falling on muddy passages. Choose models with deeper studs for better grip.
If you're just starting out, we recommend a versatile model that combines comfort, support and good grip: the Genesis.
Things to remember: below 50 km, identify the most important criterion for you: comfort, grip or versatility. This will help you choose the ideal model more quickly.

And of course, test your trail shoes well before the big day. It's important to "do" them well beforehand, so that they adapt to your feet and your stride. A well-trained shoe is a more efficient shoe.
